Back to Frequently Asked Questions

  • I bought a new wall-mounted cabin light fixture and I was told it comes with a 10 watt festoon bulb. Do you have a LED replacement bulb for this?
Yes we do but first you need to check the length of the bulb. They are typically 31mm, 36mm, 39mm, and 42mm  Back to Top

Do you sell an LED festoon bulb to replace the one that comes with my mounted cabin light fixture?
Yes we do but first you need to check the length of the bulb. They are typically 31mm, 36mm, 39mm, and 41mm  Back to Top

Will your 12volt led bulbs fit in my 12 volt incandescent sockets?
Yes, look for the bulb connector inside to match up with the type of LED bulb you want to use. To help you we have a couple of tools on the web site, You can lookup your bulb by clicking here on Bulb Lookup  Back to Top

Are LED's and/or LED bulbs (not individual LED's) dimmable?
Yes to a degree, the bulb will dim to about 50 percent brightness and then shut off. But you must use a reostat dimmer.  Back to Top

If so, is a special type of dimmer required.
They are the non-electronic type (Reostat) or older style  Back to Top

How much wattage does each light emitting diode consume (the most common)?
It depends on the color used but a typical draw is 5-10 ma   Back to Top

Roughly how many lumens do each individual LED produce?
About 15,000 mcd, a small fraction of 1 lumen   Back to Top

Are LED bulbs offered in the 4-5000 Kelvin range?
Yes they are, They are known as bright or cool white the same as fluorescents are.
They also come in Warm White at 2700 - 3200 K and any other color you may want.  Back to Top

How much current does the BAY15D36W use?
It draws about 600ma or 6/10ths of an amp  Back to Top

Is there any chart available that would tell me LED equivalent to the wattage of a given household bulb?
    No  Back to Top

You should list the Beam Angles, as that is critical to convert to Lumens.
See this. http://led.linear1.org/lumen.wiz What are the beam angles for those below?
For the Tower bulbs it is 360 degrees  Back to Top

How many amps does your BAY15D36W   draw??
The draw in amps is 600 ma or 6/10ths of an amp   Back to Top

When compared to DR LED, the number of actual LED's you are using seem to be more - is this just to accommodate difference in layout pattern??
The reason for more LEDs are to give the bulb the right height for the fixtures lens and degree of visibility (112.5 port 112.5 starboard and 135 stern)   Back to Top

I read, with great interest about your "1156TWhite" Mast Light, but I can't find anywhere where it states what Amperage draw it uses.
It draws about 200ma or 2/10ths of an amp  Back to Top

I'm looking for an LED replacement for 90w incandescent recessed light.  Do you have such a product?
No we do not, at this point in time LED products that have that high a wattage are cost prohibitive.
How bright your 21 LED mini spot (Model 110P20W21H) is as measured in Watts or Lumens??
About 100 lumens or good for 4 to 6 ft working distance  Back to Top

I am attempting to replace a 12 volt lamp which functioned as a deck light.  The old bulb looks like it says 20-CP.  It is a bayonet style single contact and looks like a miniature "flood light bulb".  Have you a replacement or suggest a substitution?
No we do not, as the cost of this replacement would be more than would be practical for the amount of use this type of light might have.  Deck lights are generally not on for long enough to cause a large battery drain. And when you have them on you want all the light you can get to be safe.   Back to Top

How do I know if it is the correct bulb for my mast light bulb connector?
We have a bulb base lookup chart for you to match your bulb.  Back to Top

Is the Light output more, less, or equal to the light output of my incandescent 12-volt bulb?
As a signaling device (a Navigational fixture) they are as bright or brighter than a incandescent bulb because the light intensity is very bright at a wide power range (10 -15 vdc) where an incandescent will be very dim at the lower power range. But the volume of light thrown is less, the working distance is 4 -6 ft for LEDs.  Back to Top

How many amps does the light draw?
200ma and less for the smaller bulbs and 600ma for the larger bulbs   Back to Top

Are LED Bulbs approved by the USCG ?
Following the existing regulations, only the light housing filters (Fixtures) are subject to an official approval (it must have the right color, be tinted in the mass and resist to ageing). Luminous sources must not get an agreement. However, lights must conform to the International Regulations of the IMO, which specifies the visibility distance of navigation lights.
We think that NU-LITES LEDs do probably conform to the International rules of the IMO. However, we cannot give any warranty about that. We also think that it will be very difficult to get an official paper which could attest that a product is matching a non-existing Regulation or that no Regulations applies to this product. As with other bulb vendors, we cannot invest in testing our bulbs in light Fixtures from all manufacturers. For more information, you may contact UL Labs directly about the test they perform on behalf of the USCG and other regulating bodies.
The most important fact is that the bulbs used meet or exceed the candle power rating set by the manufacturer for the fixture, in a lot of them it is 8 CP (8 candle Power). The CP for the LEDs is around 15 CP depending on the LED bulb in use.

How many percent of the emitted light is absorbed by the colored filters of the lights?
None! The answer is definitely "no" because we are not using white LED in front of colored filters. We only use LED's which are emitting a colored light, which is compatible with the tint of the filter. That is, about 100% of the available light is passing through the filters.   Back to Top
